Sherin Mathews was reported missing on the 7th (just a few days shy of two weeks ago). Her father told police that she was made to stand outside -- at around 3:00 a.m. -- but he didn't report her missing until many hours later. Scent dogs were brought into the search, but no trace of her has been found.
Over the course of the past two weeks, authorities have extensively searched, but they have also focused their investigation (apparently) on the father of the missing girl. Fox News reports that items collected from the home include bags of clothing, contents of a vacuum cleaner, yellow gloves and other items that may indicate some kind of cleanup was conducted.
Cases like these never sit well. There are elements of child abuse at play, and possibly far worse. Little Sherin Mathews remains missing while detectives try to figure out just what happened to her. Meanwhile, emotions are running incredibly high, and accusations are flying.
At the least, it was negligent to leave a toddler (with special needs, no less) outside unsupervised in the middle of the night. But it seems that detectives believe that this either facilitated an abduction -- or something far more sinister happened to her.
