Sparks cold case: Who killed Tina Huston?

$

On October 30, 1995 -- Halloween Eve -- the body of  34-year-old Tina Huston was found violently murdered in her home. Her body was discovered by officers who were sent to her mobile home in Sparks, Nevada on a so-called "welfare check." However, it's never been clarified as to why they were sent on that welfare check in the first place. The details surrounding this 20-year-old cold case are still closely guarded by detectives, but what little that has been released indicates that this woman suffered a horrifyingly painful and brutal death. Who killed this woman, and why? Authorities in Northern Nevada have their work cut out for them with this case, but they remain dedicated to tracking down her killer, even after two decades.

What concerns me, first and foremost, is the date of her murder. Sometimes called "Halloween eve," the night before Halloween -- especially in the United States -- is of significant importance. This is the traditional night of "trickery" and mischief that leads up to the candy-filled festivities that Halloween night brings. In fact, the night before Halloween is often called "Mischief Night," and sometimes even "Devil's Night." This isn't to be confused with the British holiday "Mischief Night," which lands the night before Guy Fawkes Night. For the most part, "Mischief Night," is known for pranks and vandalism. However, there have been plenty of violent incidents in the United States which may or may not be connected to the unofficial holiday. Could this mean that Tina Huston was the victim of someone's twisted idea of some "Mischief Night" festivities?

To be honest, the odds of Tina Huston's death being specifically related to Halloween are probably pretty slim. At the least, it's a creepy coincidence, and another scary element to a cold case that is already terrifying. Whether or not the holiday was part of the motive in association with her death, the fact remains that this woman was slain during the Halloween season in a horrifically violent crime that remains unsolved.

Detectives still won't release exactly how she died, or the manner in which her body was found in her Sparks home. However, they have referred to her death as both "brutal," and "very, very vicious." Her official cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma, but no other details exist for the public domain. They have also pointed out that this slain woman didn't live a high-risk lifestyle. She was known to be a hard-working mother, who was devoted to her children and the church she attended. She was a highly religious woman who lived a quiet life.

Authorities investigating this cold case have also stated their belief that this was not a random murder. They believe that the person(s) responsible for Tina Huston's death was someone she knew personally.

Heather Elvis case: Are Sidney and Tammy Moorer innocent?

$

It has been more than two years since Heather Elvis vanished from the Myrtle Beach area, in a case that has South Carolina residents absolutely divided. Two people are accused of kidnapping -- and possibly murdering -- the missing South Carolina woman: A married couple by the names Sidney and Tammy Moorer. Over the course of the past two and a half years, authorities in South Carolina have focused specifically on the Moorers, attempting to put them on trial even though the publicized evidence against them doesn't seem like enough. In fact, murder charges against them have been totally dropped. This tells me that the prosecution does not have the proof to actually charge and convict the couple of killing the missing South Carolina woman, so what could that mean about the rest of the accusations against them?

Even though charges of murder against Sidney and Tammy have been dropped, the state is still pursuing kidnapping charges against them. However, Sidney Moorer's side of this process has just ended in a mistrial -- much to the disappointment of the virtual lynch mob headed by Heather's father Terry. The mistrial was supposedly declared because the jurors deadlocked on whether or not to convict the man of kidnapping his former lover. While 10 jurors wanted to convict, two would not. The trial will presumably be rescheduled, and Tammy's trial is supposed to begin sometime in the future.

There could be a number of reasons why jurors couldn't see eye-to-eye on whether or not Sidney Moorer is guilty in the kidnapping of Heather Elvis. Some people believe that there was a conflict of interest in the juror pool -- that one of the jurors happens to be a friend of Sidney's defense attorney. This is nothing that has been confirmed as a fact. At this time it is just gossip that hasn't been confirmed. If it's true, then certainly something will come of it. I'm not really convinced it is true, though.

Where is the actual evidence?
It seems that most of what has been used against Sidney and Tammy is little more than circumstantial evidence. One of those pieces of "evidence," that was mentioned during Sidney's recent trial, was the fact that he was seen purchasing a cigar and a pregnancy test around the time of Heather's disappearance. This was actually something that many thought was a rumor back in the early days of her disappearance, which was used to speculate that Heather may have been pregnant.

While it could still easily be speculated that Heather Elvis got pregnant before her disappearance, it needs to be noted that Tammy Caison Moorer was reported as pregnant around the time of her arrest. This is why the supposed surveillance footage of Sidney purchasing the pregnancy test is nothing more than circumstantial. It does not prove without a shadow of doubt that Heather Elvis was pregnant, nor does it prove without a shadow of doubt that Sidney had a thing to do with her disappearance. The timing looks suspect. That is certainly true, but it is not hardcore, irrefutable evidence to prove that Sidney took part in Heather's disappearance and/or death.

Now, let's talk about this cellphone evidence that was used against Sidney Moorer in court (again, mistrial by the way). Texts were sent from Sidney's phone to Heather's which were a little odd, and indicative that trouble certainly was present between the married couple and the now-missing woman. Sidney supposedly texted "Stop stalking me," to Heather. There were also messages which indicated that Tammy sent veiled threats to Heather, asking if she'd be interested in "meeting the Mrs." A forensic mapping of Heather's cellphone indicated that her phone had traveled from the direction of the Elvis residence, and then to the  boat landing where her car was ultimately found abandoned. No records indicate that her phone had been in the vicinity of the Moorer residence.

I also find it incredibly interesting that the expert who mapped Heather's phone for use as evidence against the Moorers, did not do the same for Tammy or Sidney Moorer's phones.

In regards to the veiled threats sent from (presumably) Tammy Moorer, it really doesn't prove anything either. It does seem suspicious, but only from a circumstantial standpoint. How many of us -- in fits of jealousy and/or anger -- have made similar comments to others who may have been threats to our relationships? I have admittedly threatened to knock a few women out over the course of the past 20 years that I've been in the dating and relationship arena. Emotions run high when you're "in love" with someone that another woman is trying to take away from you, and while most of the blame rests on the shoulders of the cheating partner, irrationality also rears its ugly head when one's "territory" is being invaded. We're only human -- and I am absolutely lucky that none of the women that I have confronted have gone missing or ended up murder. If Tammy and Sidney Moorer were not responsible for Heather's disappearance, then they have certainly fallen victim to some incredibly unfortunate circumstances.

Are Tammy and Sidney wrongly accused of kidnapping Heather Elvis?
This won't be a popular opinion, but I think it is highly probable. I cannot ignore the circumstantial evidence, because the circumstances are what they are. However, it's still circumstantial evidence -- and without any hardcore forensic proof, how are we so sure that this couple took any role in Heather's disappearance?

I find it troubling that, from the  beginning, investigators in Horry County have focused primarily on Tammy and Sidney. While they very well should have been a point of focus in this investigation, there should have been other avenues investigated as well. Heather Elvis lived a high-risk lifestyle, and was clearly not the "favorite" in her family. It was always rumored that she had been kicked out of her family's home more than once, and this was later confirmed during Sidney Moorer's trial.

I'm not insulting Heather's memory. I am simply stating known facts about this missing young woman, that should have been applied to the search for her from the beginning. However, Terry Elvis (her father) has done everything in his power to manipulate not only the investigation behind her disappearance, but the search for her  -- both physically and via social media. During the early days of her disappearance, this man downright refused to even acknowledge her tattoos, refusing to put them on any flyers, refusing to give descriptions of them. This was a narcissistic approach to looking for his daughter, who very well could have been kidnapped and murdered for all anybody knows. Tattoos are identifying marks that are absolutely necessary in searches for missing people, as well as identifying Jane and John Does. In fact, one of the very first flyers that focused on identifying her tattoos was designed personally by me. This only attracted personal attacks from Terry Elvis, who has behaved during this case more like a suspect than the two people who are being accused by Horry County prosecutors.

So do I think Tammy and Sidney are guilty of Heather's disappearance? While it's totally possible, I just don't see the evidence against them as being anything concrete. I believe Hoory County detectives have put all their eggs in to one basket without fully looking into this case, and I believe that the locals have played too easily in to the hands of Terry Elvis and the authorities who are behave as though they are being led by him. If Tammy and Sidney did kidnap or kill Heather, then there has to be solid forensic evidence against them. If they didn't, then someone out there is laughing his or her ass off at this ridiculous display of injustice.

Meanwhile, Heather Elvis is still missing, and it's safe to assume that she is dead. Until her remains are found (or by some extreme miracle she is found alive) nobody will really know for certain what happened to her. For all we know, Heather could have fallen in to a deep depression over Sidney rebuffing her attempts at being with him. She could have wandered away and killed herself the night she went missing. For all we know, she could have been at the boat landing minding her own business, and someone completely unknown by anyone in this case preyed on her opportunistically. Anything is possible, but there is tunnel vision locked on to Sidney and Tammy Moorer -- and again, I am just not convinced by circumstantial evidence. Show me DNA. Show me blood evidence. Show me a murder weapon. Show me something that proves without a shadow of doubt that Sidney and Tammy played an active role in Heather's disappearance and/or death.

Until that evidence is produced by the Moorer's accusers, I am just not going to be convinced.

Update -- 7/11/16 -- 11:24 p.m.: The missing child has been located safely.

Authorities in Fargo, North Dakota are looking for a six-year-old girl, who went missing this morning under unknown circumstances. Valley News Live reports that the little girl has only been identified by the name Prisskela at this time, but this case is still developing as police search for the missing child.

The missing six-year-old was last seen this morning, and was supposed to be attending a summer school program at Ed Clapp Elementary School. However, she never showed up, and hasn't been spotted since approximately 9:20 a.m.

Prisskela was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with a fox on the front of it, and a pair of dark pants with white polka dots. She was also wearing a black coat at the time of her disappearance. Her hair is cut in to a short pixie-style-cut, and is dark in color. Authorities worry that she may have gotten off the bus at the wrong stop, so they are currently searching other schools in the area in hopes of locating her.

If you've seen this little girl or if you think you may know something about her disappearance, please do not hesitate to contact the Fargo Police Department.

Lisa Irwin case 5 years later: My thoughts

$

Missouri baby Lisa Irwin still hasn't been found, and it's been five years since she was last seen alive. To make matters worse in this case, there have been no new developments in the investigation for quite a long time. Meanwhile, the parents of the missing infant still remain the focus of suspicion among numerous people in the public -- myself included -- and law enforcement in Kansas City.

I have covered this case since the very day that Baby Lisa disappeared -- exactly five years ago today. From the very first news report detailing her disappearance, something didn't sit well with me, and for very good reason. Not long after Lisa Irwin was reported missing, her mother's story began to unravel at an alarming speed. Nonetheless, Deborah Bradley has never been charged in connection with the six-month-old baby's disappearance. Still, detectives in Missouri have long-declared that neither Deb or her husband Jeremy Irwin have been cooperative in their efforts to find out what happened to the little girl. Could this be indicative of guilt? It's very possible, especially when looking at the big picture.

First of all, Deborah told police that someone came in through a bedroom window in order to snatch her sleeping daughter from her crib. This unknown person then walked right out the front door of the home -- but not before he (or she) turned on every light in the house, and stole at least two cellphones. Investigators quickly debunked the idea that someone entered through a window, by attempting to do a sort of reenactment. To make a long story short, nobody could have climbed through the window with ease.

Also, Deborah once claimed to authorities that she had last seen her baby when she put her down to bed in her crib on the evening prior to reporting her missing. However, she later admitted that she had gotten intoxicated, and really didn't see her daughter for many hours prior -- when she put her to bed at around 6:40 p.m. Bradley told detectives that she "blacked out," from drinking boxed wine, while she was caring for the six-month-old infant and her two half-brothers.

Over the course of the investigation and search, disturbing discoveries were made in the home inhabited by the missing infant and her family. Dog handler Martin Grime and his famed scent dogs reportedly found evidence that someone had died in the residence. The incriminating odor was found on clothing belonging to the baby, as well as in the room where Deborah Bradley passed out after her night of drinking.

Bradley has also publicly claimed that she failed a polygraph test during the initial investigation behind Baby Lisa's disappearance. Nonetheless, she has never been arrested or charged in connection with her daughter's disappearance, and authorities have never brought any closure to the circumstantial and forensic evidence that exists against her.

Will another five years pass before this missing infant is found? I think if she was going to be found at all, she would have been found earlier in the search for her. Whatever happened to her, someone has done a tremendous job of hiding her -- whether she's dead or alive. I'm more inclined to think she's no longer with us.

What happened to Shadow McClaine?

What happened to missing soldier Shadow McClaine? The 25-year-old Kentucky woman last had contact with her loved ones on Sept. 2, at around 7:07 p.m. However, the contact was via text message with her mother. As far as I'm concerned, this does not guarantee that this was the actual last contact she had with anyone. The very last text sent from her phone indicated that she was driving. From that point, her phone was turned off, and she has not gotten back in contact with her mother -- or other loved ones -- since that evening. It has been over a month since she vanished, but what could be behind this strange disappearance?

Shadow was supposed to house-sit for friends over the weekend that she lost contact with her family. She never did so. Furthermore, there has been absolutely no activity on her bank account since Sept. 2. She also has not reported for duty at Fort Campbell. Her family insists that it is not in her character to go missing like this -- a sentiment that worries me every time the loved ones of a missing person expresses it. When a disappearance is out of someone's character, it could indicate any number of circumstances or scenarios. In the case of Shadow McClaine, what could it imply? Is this woman the victim of foul play, or did she suddenly decide (for whatever reason) to vanish on her own volition?

Something troubles me about this case, and that's the woman's past social media behavior. A Facebook page exists, which appears to belong to her, that hasn't been used since June of this year. Some of the past posts on that page seem to indicate that Shadow was having trouble with more than one person -- including a woman who had been threatening her. She implies, in her Facebook posts, that her ex-husband is the target of a possible military investigation. She also appears to imply that she has been the target of threats and harassment as a result of this.

Could her disappearance have something to do with this?

A couple of weeks following Shadow McClaine's disappearance, her vehicle was located. Strangely, it was found abandoned approximately 70 miles from where she was last seen. The Daily Mail reported that the 2013 Hyundai Elantra was located in a Nashville parking lot. Authorities haven't shared any further information about this discovery -- such as whether or not the car contained evidence of a crime.

With it being more than a month since Shadow was last seen, what could come of the search for her? While folks on social media continue pushing for answers -- along with the missing woman's loved ones -- authorities remain silent on where their investigation is taking them. Is their investigation taking them anywhere at all?

Was Shannon Palmer murdered?

Authorities in Arkansas are looking for Shannon Palmer. The 33-year-old woman hasn't been seen since August 10, making it approximately two months that she has been missing. What's troubling is the sparse media coverage in this case, as her loved ones continue to search for her. What few circumstances exist in the disappearance of the Arkansas woman can indicate a number of scenarios -- and unfortunately, none of them lead to happy endings. So what happened to Shannon? Is she the victim of foul play, or can her disappearance be explained through other theories?

The missing woman's husband troubles me. That doesn't mean that I'm leveling any accusations against the man. After all, his wife is missing, and this is a time that is -- ordinarily -- a time of mourning, confusion and anger. Nonetheless, I want to express that the hubby didn't make his presence in this case entirely known until the vehicle driven by Shannon Palmer was discovered. Her truck was found near a Mississippi River levee, approximately a half hour from her residence. The truck reportedly contained her purse. Shoes belonging to the Arkansas woman were also reportedly found in the woods near the truck. So what could all this mean?

The media isn't paying much attention to this case, and with each week that passes the likelihood of it regaining interest is almost nonexistent. Meanwhile, her loved ones continue to wonder what happened to her. I want to know why her truck was found parked by a river levee, and what other evidence -- if any -- has been located. Did she wander off on her own, or did someone put her somewhere?

Las Vegas cold case: Who killed Brianna Jean Schlick?

During the nighttime hours of February 16, 2007 -- just two days following Valentine's Day -- 21-year-old Brianna Jean Schlick was violently murdered. Now it's nearing a decade since that fatal day, and authorities still haven't figured out who took the life of this young woman. Will this case ever be solved?

The homicide took place around the 7300 block of Sundown Glen Avenue -- an otherwise quiet and "nice" part of Las Vegas. An unknown assailant entered the home where Brianna Schlick was babysitting for the evening. She was sleeping on the couch at the time, and died by a single gunshot wound to the head. At this time there have been no publicized leads in the search for her killer, nor have any suspects or persons of interest been named.

Who would randomly kill a sleeping woman in a quiet Las Vegas neighborhood? Hopefully authorities with the Las Vegas Metro Police can figure out who killed this woman before another decade passes.

Slain in Sin City: The unsolved murder of Krista Lee Elliott

Over three decades ago, the slain body of Krista Lee Elliott was discovered in a Las Vegas motel room. With all the time that's passed -- along with the strange circumstances of this homicide -- it's hard to determine whether or not there will ever be closure in this case. One thing is for certain, however, and that's that the murder of this young woman remains one of the most mysterious cold cases in Las Vegas history.

On the morning of June 02, 1982, a maid entered room #2054 at the Frontier Hotel to perform a routine cleaning and tidying. What awaited her after she unlocked the door wasn't the ordinary scene of untidy sheets and filled waste-baskets, though. What welcomed the maid on that morning was a macabre scene of murder -- a crime scene absolutely worthy of any fictionalized crime show focusing on this iconic city. The body of a young blonde woman lay in the motel room's bed. She had been viciously stabbed to death, and laid in a pool of blood that couldn't be fully absorbed by the bedding beneath her.

Not much is known about the victim in this case. Krista Lee Elliott was an attractive young woman of between 25 and 30-years-old. Only one photo publicly exists of the slain woman -- and none of the crime scene photos have ever been publicized. The woman murdered in the famed Frontier Hotel remains an enigma all these many years later.

What also remains an enigma, is the mystery of who may have killed Krista. The name used to check in to the room where her body was found turned out to be a false alias. The man who registered the room used the name Gerry Simms, but this person (detectives claim) does not exist. The mysterious man also used cash to pay for the room, making it impossible to track him down for interrogation surrounding the violent murder of Krista Lee Elliott.

Who could this mysterious man be? Was it a Las Vegas local who stabbed the pretty, young blonde to death? Or was this a tourist who simply killed a woman and went about his way to another city? Anything is possible, especially with there being no public information about this case. That's easy to understand considering it's been over 30 years with no solution in sight, but it disappoints me that this woman is not being represented by any loved ones. Did she have any loved ones?

'Killer clown' shot Florida woman in the face

With all the recent madness surrounding "clown sightings" across the country, it's easy to laugh at those who are actually panicked. After all, a clown is still just a person in makeup and costume, even if they do look creepy. Nonetheless, there have been multiple incidents involving clowns -- in real life -- that make the current panic slightly understandable. One of those incidents is the unsolved murder of Florida woman Marlene Warren.

On May 26, 1990, Marlene Warren answered her front door to someone who was dressed as a clown. The character was carrying flowers and balloons, but he was not there to give them as gifts to the Florida woman -- nor was he there to perform any cheerful clown antics for her amusement. Instead, the costumed person pulled out a handgun and shot Marlene Warren in the face.

It has been many years, but Marlene's costumed killer has never been identified. Her husband was suspected at one time during the investigation, but no arrests have ever been made. Now, her story exists on the internet, as fodder for those who want to debate on whether or not there is truly a history of clown-related killings in the United States (excluding John Wayne Gacy of course).

Are you afraid of clowns?

Halloween horrors: Shocking murders on All Hallows' Eve

$

Halloween is just around the corner, and tis the season for throw blankets, hot cocoa and spooky stories -- but what stories are spookier than true ones? The following cases are examples of some of the most gruesome real-life crimes committed on this popular autumn holiday.

Texas man Johnny Frank Garrett committed a crime that some may consider unthinkable. On October 31, 1981, the 17-year-old teenager let himself into the St. Francis Convent -- which was located across the street from his family's residence. On the second floor of the convent, he encountered 76-year-old nun, Sister Tadea Benz. Instead of fleeing from the convent, like most teenagers would do, Johnny Frank Garrett assaulted the elderly woman. The Texas man not only assaulted her, but he raped, strangled and killed the nun -- then left her body on the second floor of the convent from which he fled.

Garrett's case isn't only famous because he committed the grisly crime on Halloween morning. What made his case ultimately famous was the fact that he was sentenced to the death penalty at only 17-years-old. What's more, the state of Texas carried out that penalty and executed the man when he was 28-years-old -- more than a decade after he was convicted of his crimes. His defenders have famously argued against the fact that he was underage when he was sentenced to death -- and have also noted that he was seriously mentally challenged.

Sixteen-year-old Lynette Ledford was tortured and killed by two serial killers on Halloween.
The teenager was walking home from a Halloween party in 1979, when the duo known as the "Tool Box Killers," picked her up in their van. Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris raped and tortured the teenage girl. They reportedly sodomized her with a pair of pliers, and used a hammer to bash her elbows while recording her screams of agony. Ultimately, the California teen was strangled to death with a piece of wire. Her body was dumped on the lawn of a random residence in Hermosa Beach, just to see the reaction in media reports.

The two serial killers who took this teenager's life on Halloween, also had a handful of other female victims -- all of which were young girls under the age of 19-years-old. Thankfully, they were both apprehended and their crime spree only lasted for a couple of months in the year 1979.

Sometimes poisoned candy doesn't come from strangers. On Halloween in 1974, Texas man Ronald Clark O'Bryan executed a deadly plan against his own children -- and some neighborhood kids as well. The man poisoned some packages of the popular "Pixy Stix" powder straws, and then coerced his 11-year-old son into ingesting it -- even though the child claimed that it tasted funny. It wasn't long before the child was violently ill, and he was dead before he could make it to a nearby hospital. Ultimately, the Texas man was convicted of this horrifying crime, and was put to death by lethal injection.

Hoax alert: Jodi Arias 'early release' story fools gullible readers

A new hoax involving convicted killer Jodi Arias has gone viral, and this time it's almost surprising to see people falling for it. A story published by the Boston Tribune, earlier this month, claims that the Arizona woman may see an early release from prison.

The report cited that an incident between Arias and correctional officers has led to a decision that makes no logical sense whatsoever. The woman who killed Travis Alexander will reportedly be released to "house arrest," and will be required to check-in with a parole officer for three years. Of course, as Snopes has pointed out, this story is absolutely false. Jodi Arias will not be granted an early release -- for any reason -- from prison.

The Boston Tribune is a satirical website that has garnered viral attention before -- like many other sites of similar nature. Sites like these prey on the gullible nature of readers on social media, who swallow whatever headline comes across their timelines. It's unfortunate that so many people fell for this particular hoax, but incredibly fortunate that it was, indeed, a hoax. Jodi Arias is right where she belongs, and will stay behind the walls of a prison for the rest of her natural life.

Is Donald Trump a rapist? Casey Anthony's former attorney represents accuser who says he is

Donald Trump's supporters are trying their best to ignore the recent scandal involving him on a hot mic, appearing to joke and brag about sexual assault. However, there appears to be an alleged history of sexual misconduct involving this relic from the Reagan era. ABC News reports that at least one woman has come forward with a lawsuit, alleging that The Donald raped her when she was just a teenager. To make these claims seem more legit, the lawyer that represented Casey Anthony is now representing the woman making these allegations. So could millions of Americans potentially vote for a man who has not only bragged about sexual assault, but possibly committed it?

Cheney Mason is representing a plaintiff known only in the media as "Jane Doe," who alleges that Donald Trump sexually assaulted her when she was just 13-years-old. The woman claims that Trump, along with Jeffrey Epstein, raped her multiple time during at least one occasion -- a party that had been arranged by the billionaire duo. The Independent reports that a judge has granted a hearing to determine whether or not to advance with the trial -- or to determine whether or not Trump should simply settle out of court with the alleged victim. Furthermore, at least one witness exists in these allegations, who claims that parties were held where underage girls were lured for sex (forced or otherwise).

In case you're suspicious of these allegations -- in particular how the timing seems convenient with him running for President -- then it should be noted that this is not the first time this lawsuit has been brought against Trump. The woman, who alleges that the rapes occurred in 1994, has tried to take Donald Trump to court at least three times with no success. It hasn't been until very recently that a judge has decided to hear the case from both sides to determine how (or if) to proceed.

Also, this is not the only time Donald Trump has been accused of sexual assault. In 1991, Trump's former wife Ivana accused him of violently sexually assaulting her after ripping off her clothes. Another woman, in 1997, also accused the presidential hopeful of raping her. She later withdrew the lawsuit, but has recently gone on the record as defending her allegations against him. When asked if she still "stood by her allegations," she simply replied: "Yes."

Good riddance: Bigoted 'Sweet Cakes' bakery finally closes

Good riddance to bad rubbish: I'm very pleased to learn that the Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakery in Gresham, Oregon has finally closed, after a years-long battle over their mistreatment over LGBT customers. This news broke earlier this month, with Opposing Views reporting that the owners of Sweet Cakes announced the closure on Sept. 29.

Bakery owners Aaron and Melissa Klein launched themselves down the road to failure when they refused their business to a lesbian couple in 2012. By 2013, the couple found themselves the targets of a lawsuit launched by the couple. They also attracted the attention of national media and the scrutiny of people from one end of the country to the other. While they did gain support from conservatives and religious fanatics, they were still legally found to be in violation of Oregon state law, and were ordered to pay more than $100k for their behavior.
Here it is four years later, and Sweet Cakes by Melissa is finally closed. No longer will Aaron and Melissa Klein feel empowered to berate members of the LGBT community, who are simply looking for services that are otherwise offered to the public. Hopefully their story serves as a warning to other business owners who may feel that they are justified in discriminating against members of the public.

Mom caught teen doing something horrifying in his bedroom

A Maryland teen is in jail and facing the possibility of life imprisonment, and it's all because his mother walked in on him doing something unthinkable. Opposing Views reports that 14-year-old Solomon Pule raped his own eight-year-old cousin, and threatened her with a weapon to make sure she wouldn't tell on him.

The incident took place in April 2014. The teenage boy's mother was putting her younger child to bed when she noticed that it had become "too quiet" in the home -- where her 14-year-old son and eight-year-old niece were awake at the time. Call it a mother's intuition, but she felt that something was amiss by the silence in the home, so she decided to check in her teenage son's bedroom to check on him and the eight-year-old girl.

To her horror, she discovered exactly why it had become "too quiet." She had literally caught her teenage son in the act of raping his eight-year-old cousin. The Huffington Post reports that 14-year-old Solomon Pule was on top of the little girl, who was partially clothed. His pants were down at the time. The teen's mother noted that a pair of scissors were nearby. Fortunately, she stopped the sexual assault, and was able to find out that Solomon had threatened the little girl with the pair of scissors -- telling her that he would cut her with them if she screamed. The little girl also confirmed that the teen had raped her.

Solomon Pule's mother turned him in to police for the shocking rape of his eight-year-old cousin. Since his arrest, it's been decided that he will be tried as an adult -- which, in the state of Maryland -- could get him life in prison. However, he's only 14-years-old, with no legitimate criminal past. It's not likely that he will be given that stiff of a sentence. As of 2016, no reports have given update on his case.

Man murdered elderly woman to prepare for zombie apocalypse

An Arkansas man has been convicted of various crimes associated with the grisly death of a 90-year-old woman. Investigation Discovery's Crime Feed reports that Richard Jordan Tarver will never see the outside of a prison complex again after what he did to Lavinda Counce. The details surrounding this shocking case are horrifying, and they are also indicative of Hollywood and Television's strange effects on people who suffer from dangerous mental illness.

On July 3, 2015, Richard Tarver broke into the residence of 90-year-old Lavinda Counce. The Arkansas man forcefully removed the elderly woman from her home, and placed her into the trunk of his car. After driving around for an unspecified amount of time, the man pulled over near a cornfield and concluded his macabre plan. Police say that Tarver removed the elderly woman from the trunk of his car, and walked her out among the stalks of corn. It was there that he used a .38-caliber handgun to shoot her in the back of the head.

The 31-year-old man left the 90-year-old woman's body where she was murdered, and then abandoned her vehicle at a hospital in the area. He walked from the hospital to a friend's home, and had them give him a ride home -- under the false story that he had been in the area visiting someone at the hospital. It didn't take long for authorities to track the man down and charge him with the murder of the elderly woman, especially since he was so sloppy as to leave a bag of items at the home of Lavinda Counce. His friend that had given him a ride home on the night of her murder positively identified the bag as belonging to the Arkansas man. The bag reportedly contained items that were part of a sort of post-apocalyptic cosplay. Richard Jorda Tarver identified the items, declaring that he was going to dress up as a "survivor."

"It was part of what I was dressing up as -- as a survivor. Like in the movies...When the world ends."

The Arkansas man ultimately admitted to shooting Counce, and cited his motive was so he could prepare for a potential zombie epidemic. He told detectives that he needed to practice shooting zombies, "to learn what it felt like." He chose the 90-year-old woman for the most sickening reason: Because she was "the closest thing" to a zombie that he could find. He also admitted to stealing $50.00 from the slain elderly woman, which he used to fund his nine-year-old daughter's birthday party.

Richard Tarver has been sentenced to three life terms of imprisonment, plus 22 years. Ironically, he's in the worst place a person could be in the event of a zombie apocalypse. He should know this, since he admitted to binge-watching The Walking Dead shortly before killing Lavinda Counce.

Are Trump supporters dangerous?

Are Donald Trump's supporters a danger to our society? Maybe not all of them -- but it seems that a disturbing number of folks are already getting riled up at the thought of him losing this election. Unfortunately for those people, Hillary is ahead of Donald by several points -- making him less popular than Mitt Romney was when Barack Obama whooped him in the 2012 election. It's gotten to the point that many Republican and Democrat analysts have called the election in Hillary's favor, and several conservative politicians have distanced themselves from their party's current candidate. Meanwhile, Trump himself has declared more than once that, if he loses, that somehow proves that this election is "rigged." He has even refused, preemptively, to accept the outcome of Nov. 8th's election results -- possibly because he already knows that he has failed. Some of his followers are absolutely infuriated -- or are they terrified? -- of the idea of Hillary Clinton being our first female president. So, do the rest of us need to worry about these people?

I had an encounter on Facebook earlier, in the comments beneath a post I had made about my support for Hillary Clinton. Two random guys showed up, who are not on my friend list, to argue their support for Donald Trump in the typical "country" way that some of his followers tend to boisterously do. At least one of these individuals made near-blatant remarks about a so-called "revolution" that would rise up in the event that Hillary Clinton is elected President of the United States of America. As laughable as that was, he repeated the comment -- with different wording -- in the same conversation, as if he was trying to intimidate me into reversing my public support for the candidate that he so-irrationally hated. His buddy was no better in his approach, but to be honest, I was entertained. At the same time, I was a little saddened, and worried for the public. When Hillary is elected on Nov. 8th, people like these two men -- who own firearms -- may feel compelled to turn their irrational rage and hatred into some physical manifestation of violence.

I do anticipate at least one assassination attempt on Hillary Clinton's life in the future -- after she is elected as President of the United States. I am grateful that assassination attempts have been largely unsuccessful for many, many years -- even though numerous attempts are recorded. There's no doubt that security for our future president will be incredibly tight for numerous reasons -- and that's to be expected and respected.

Aside from the possible (I say inevitable) threat on Hillary Clinton's life by Trump supporters, I fear that the public -- including our public servants -- may be at risk. Comments made by individuals, as shown in the screenshots in this post, are one thing. But many of us -- the majority of us -- do not share these sentiments. The majority of us, I don't believe, would put up with any so-called revolutionary uprising of those who are expressing sour grapes that their candidate didn't win. I think that many of us would defend our country against the domestic terrorists who try to create terroristic and murderous situations after Hillary is elected, and because of that, I believe that citizens are at as much risk of violence as our elected officials.

We are a country divided -- but if there is one thing I hope we all unite on, is that treason is wrong. Advocating the overthrowing of our government simply because you don't agree with election results (that aren't even known yet, might I add), makes you look like a crazed and dangerous person. Thankfully, dangerous people of that caliber are few and far between in this increasingly progressive nation. And thankfully even mainstream conservatives are against such extreme sentiments.

Man tricked pregnant girlfriend into drinking bleach

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested, after authorities in Millersville say that he tried to trick his girlfriend into aborting their unborn child. The Dreamin' Demon reports that 20-year-old Theophilous Washington has admitted to attempting a DIY abortion on his unsuspecting girlfriend. Fortunately, he was unsuccessful, and his girlfriend was lucky to survive this outrageous attempt at ending her pregnancy. The details surrounding this sickening case are downright shocking -- but stories like this one are nothing new at all.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday morning. The 20-year-old university student was spending time with his girlfriend in his apartment. When the woman was leaving for her own home, which was nearby, he told her to take a bottle of water from his fridge. The woman, who was thirsty, didn't think twice about accepting a bottled water from her boyfriend -- the father of her unborn child.
When the unnamed woman returned to her on-campus apartment, she began drinking the bottled water that Theophilous Washington had given her. According to the woman, she immediately felt a burning sensation in her throat, along with a violent wave of nausea. She vomited, and then immediately called 911, fearing that she had indeed ingested something other than water.

Upon being interviewed by authorities, the woman revealed what had happened between her and her boyfriend that day -- and told them about the bottled water. Washington was quick to admit to authorities, not long after they interviewed his pregnant girlfriend, that he did not want her to have the baby. He reportedly admitted to spiking the bottled water with bleach, in an attempt to trick the woman into having a miscarriage.

A doctor who examined the woman has noted that there was no apparent damage done to her two-month-old fetus, which is fortunate. In response to what Theophilous Washington admitted to doing, authorities in Millersville charged him with multiple crimes. He has been charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder of an unborn child. He has also been charged with reckless endangering.  He is currently being held in jail on bond in the amount of $1 Million -- which means he probably won't be getting out any time soon.

This is far from the only time a man has been arrested for attempting to cause a woman's miscarriage. A few years ago, a Norwegian man was jailed for sneaking abortion pills into his girlfriend's smoothies. In another case, a Florida man was arrested for actually causing the miscarriage of his 26-year-old girlfriend. The 28-year-old man tricked her into taking abortion pills under the guise that they were the woman's antibiotics. This led to the death of her unborn child.

Does 'bullying' create serial killers?

An accused serial killer has been arrested in South Carolina, and his mother says that bullying is to blame for the series of horrifying crimes he is accused of committing. This brings to light a very important question: Are serial killers the products of their environments, or are they born with the dynamics that push them to committing unthinkable crimes? It's the old nurture vs. nature argument, but is there some actual evidence to stand behind the idea?

Todd Kohlepp was arrested after a woman was discovered chained up on his property. While it's fortunate that the young woman survived, multiple people are reportedly dead because of the man who stands accused of kidnapping her. One of those reported victims is the boyfriend of the young woman who was lucky to be freed from captivity. However, Kohlepp has reportedly confessed to the murders of several other people -- including a group of three men, and a woman, who supposedly "laughed at him," when he once tried to ride a motorcycle.

Kohlepp's mother says that her son "isn't a monster," even though he has confessed to the serial killings of more than five people. She says that the murders of four bike shop employees, in 2003, came to be after the alleged victims "bullied," her son. Todd Kohlepp reportedly attempted to ride a motorcycle at the shop -- as he had never done before -- which ended in him falling over. This reportedly resulted in the four employees bursting into laughter at the South Carolina man.

"Todd was bullied and embarrassed and I think he just held it in long enough," said Regina Kohlepp.

While it appears that Regina Kohlepp is trying to make excuses for her son's alleged actions, there does appear to be some kind of evidence to back up what she is saying. Multiple serial killers throughout history have been reported victims of bullying, prior to their crimes. For example, teenage serial killer Jesse Pomeroy was the reported victim of relentless bullying at the hands of his peers. His mother notoriously blamed this bullying on his murderous actions. However, there are also plenty of reports which indicate that Pomeroy, was himself, the bully.

Notorious serial killer, Ted Bundy, was also the target of childhood bullying. As a child, Bundy was incredibly shy and quiet, which made him the target of his peers. Later in life, Ted Bundy sort of "blossomed," into the quintessential good-looking law-student. However, he had also blossomed into a vile serial killer, who targeted numerous innocent women.

Jeffrey Dahmer was also the victim of bullying as a child. Much like Ted Bundy, Dahmer was a shy and quiet child. He was also reportedly "awkward," which caused his peers to single him out, and target him with cruel treatment. A homosexual (although not "out"), Jeffrey Dahmer was frequently targeted with homophobic slurs as part of the bullying against him. Dahmer moved on to kill several young men, whom he committed a multitude of atrocious acts upon, post-mortem.

Serial killer John Wayne Gacy was also a victim of bullying as a child. When he was a kid, Gacy suffered from a heart condition that rendered him weak and sickly. Not only was he the target of  bullying by his childhood peers, he was also treated callously by his own father -- who hated the fact that he had a "weak" son. Struggling with homosexual tendencies, Gacy targeted young men and boys during his serial killer career.

Another famous serial killer, Edmund Kemper, was also bullied as a child. Kemper is known to be a rather large man, standing at approximately 6'9". He was 6'4" at a young age, causing him to tower over his peers. This made him an easy target of ridicule.

There have been studies trying to find a correlation between violence and bullying. A study presented by Michael J. Turner has reportedly found that 14% of bullied children end up in prison as adults. The study cites that "more than 20% of those who endured chronic bullying were later convicted of violent crimes."

Do you think bullying may be a factor behind what makes a serial killer? Or is this just a convenient excuse given by those who are trying to sympathize with people who commit horrendous crimes?
