On Halloween night of 2001, 21-year-old Hyun Jong "Cindy" Song attended a costume party at the Player's Nite Club, in State College, Pennsylvania. As the late night hours of October 31st turned into the early morning hours of November 1st, the South Korean university student left the party, and was supposedly dropped off at her apartment by friends. She was never seen again, and after nearly 16 years it's hard to imagine there will be a positive end in her case. The disappearance of Cindy Song has shaped up to be one of the Halloween season's most mysterious crime cases.

The 21-year-old South Korean coed had dressed up as a bunny on the night of her disappearance, and that is what she was wearing when she was last seen. However, a search of her apartment (after she was reported missing) indicated that she had been inside, and removed the false eyelashes she had worn with her costume. Her cellphone was left in the apartment, but her purse and keys were missing along with her. Police noted that there didn't appear to be any signs of struggle in Song's apartment.

Speculation surrounded this case from the very beginning. Her loved ones believed that she may have disappeared voluntarily in order to kill herself. They believed that she may have become suicidal after breaking up with her boyfriend a month prior to her mysterious disappearance. However, her roommates and friends had claimed that the 21-year-old had not been depressed and was "getting over," the failed relationship. Her behavior leading up to her disappearance was also heavily scrutinized. In particular, her own diary entries indicated that she had experimented with drug use -- details that had been used to speculate about her disappearance.

The disappearance of Cindy Song became a cold case within a handful of years, but life was breathed into it in 2003 when a man named Hugo Marcus Selenski was arrested. The man's property was exhumed, and the bodies of at least five people were unearthed. Unfortunately, none of those remains turned out to be the missing coed. Nonetheless, detectives were told by a so-called "informant," that Selenski and an accomplice had abducted, raped and murdered her. That accomplice, Michael Kerkowski Jr., was murdered, and his body found among the remains on Selenski's property. The "informant," reportedly told police that Kerkowski was murdered by the man because he decided to keep the bunny ears that Cindy had been wearing on the night of her disappearance. His desire to keep a souvenir supposedly angered Selenski, who ultimately killed the man.

It should be noted that no evidence has ever been found to back up the story that was told to detectives, as bizarre as it sounds. It must also be noted, that a known associate of Selenski's did turn out to become a person of interest in Song's disappearance. However, the man killed himself in 2004. Steven Allan Martin could have had information about the coed's disappearance, but he took that information to the grave with him, along with possible information to lead to the whereabouts of another missing woman.

What do you think happened to Cindy Song? Was she kidnapped and murdered by Selenski and his accomplice? Or was she killed by a man believed responsible for at least one other Pennsylvania woman's disappearance? Did she disappear under other unknown circumstances?
